Development Editing

So, you have a first or second or even third draft of your book or document and are not quite sure if it hits the mark. A development edit, also known as a structural or content edit, checks for the bigger picture – how it all knits together, how it reads, how it flows and so on.

I will read your work, more than once, and make notes on the following:

• Content: Looking at the clarity and consistency of central arguments and themes.

• Structure: Considering how the content hangs together and the transitions in between.

• Clarity: Checking that your writing will reach your audience clearly.

• Tone and Flow: Looking at consistency, choice of language and readability.

 

You will receive an editorial report with easy-to-follow headings and potential action points. I can follow this up with a call or online meeting to chat about anything you are unclear about. 

 

To be clear, a development edit will not make any changes to content or pick up on grammar and typos– this is where the copyedit comes in!

  

Both copyediting and proofreading ensure your work will look professional, be as error-free as possible, and clearly communicate your writing. In a nutshell, they makes your work easier and more enjoyable to read.
